Garlic Mushrooms Recipe

Garlic Mushrooms recipe is one of the classic recipes as the combination of garlic and mushroom goes well together and has high health benefits. Mushroom is quite extensively used in continental cuisine and Chinese dishes. Moreover as they contain less fat and have surplus fibre content, they form a part of an ideal diet.

Edible mushrooms are actually a type of fungus. They are used as a vegetable as well as a herb. Among the family of mushrooms, there are only few which are edible. Rest of them are highly poisonous. However the edible ones are highly nutritious.

It is always good to use organic mushrooms. Instead of button mushrooms you can also use chestnut mushroom. Large flat open-headed Portobello mushrooms are also a good choice. You may find the above mentioned quantity of mushroom slightly large in quantity. But it is good to use this quantity as mushrooms shrink a lot while cooking.  

Ingredients

The ingredients required for Garlic mushrooms recipe are:

250 gm. of button mushrooms

15 gm. Butter

2 cloves of garlic

¼ teaspoon of freshly ground pepper

Salt to taste

Before cooking, wash and dry mushrooms properly. Remove all the discoloured portions from the stem and surrounding areas. Now cut the mushrooms to small ½ inch slices. 

Preparation

Heat a pan in low heat and melt the butter. Add the chopped mushrooms and cook it in medium heat for a couple of minutes. Stir it continuously. Once the mushrooms are cooked, reduce the heat to low and add the grated ginger. Also sprinkle salt and pepper. Now close the dish with a lid and leave it like that for 10 minutes and don’t forget to stir occasionally.

Instead of cooking the mushroom as described above, you can also try grilling or baking. While grilling, arrange the chopped mushrooms on a large oven proof dish and sprinkle a generous quantity of olive oil or butter and grated garlic on top. Also season it well. Grill it for 10 minutes until mushrooms are tender. Or you could also bake the mushrooms in a pre-heated oven at 180 degree Celsius for 30 minutes. Make sure to cover the baking tray with an aluminium foil.

The preparation time required is 10-15 minutes and it serves 2-3 persons. You can serve your garlic mushrooms as a side dish. Garlic Mushrooms with garlic bread is also an option. It can be used as a starter when served with garlic bruschetta or toast.

Garlic has anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties and it is packed with calcium, phosphorous, potassium, iron and protein. It is also rich in vitamin B,D,C.
